These healthy turkey burgers are a flavorful and nutritious alternative to traditional beef patties, made with lean turkey mince, fresh herbs, and spices. Perfectly pan-fried to juicy perfection and served with crisp lettuce and your favorite burger sauce in a bun, they make a delicious and wholesome meal ideal for a quick dinner or casual gathering.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 burgers

Ingredients

Turkey Burger Mixture

  • 400g Lean Turkey Mince
  • 2 Garlic Cloves (Crushed)
  • 1/2 Red Onion (Chopped)
  • Handful Chopped Coriander
  • 1/2 Red Chilli (optional)
  • 40g Golden Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Medium Egg
  • 1 tsp Crushed Chilli Flakes
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1 Pinch Salt

To Serve

  • 4 Burger Buns
  • Chopped Lettuce
  • Your Favourite Burger Sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare Vegetables: Finely dice the garlic, red onion, coriander, and optional red chilli. You can do this by hand or use a food processor for quicker and finer results.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the lean turkey mince with the crushed garlic, chopped red onion, coriander, red chilli, golden breadcrumbs, egg, chilli flakes, paprika, and a pinch of salt. Mix thoroughly with your hands until all ingredients are evenly distributed and the mixture forms a cohesive ball. If the mixture feels too wet, gradually add a bit more breadcrumbs until the texture is just right.
  3. Shape Burgers: Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Using your hands, shape each portion into a round patty approximately the size of your palm and about an inch thick.
  4. Heat Pan: Place a large non-stick pan on medium heat and add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking and promote browning.
  5. Cook Burgers: Place the patties in the hot pan and cook for about 5 minutes on one side, until the underside is nicely browned and releases easily from the pan.
  6. Flip and Cook Other Side: Using a spatula, carefully turn the patties over and cook for another 5 minutes until browned on the other side and cooked through. Ensure the turkey is fully cooked and no longer pink inside.
  7. Assemble and Serve: Remove the cooked burgers from the pan and place each in a burger bun. Add a generous amount of chopped lettuce and your favorite burger sauce before serving immediately.

Notes

  • Ensure the turkey is cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for safety.
  • If you prefer spicier burgers, increase the amount of chilli flakes or fresh red chilli.
  • Golden breadcrumbs help bind the mixture; if unavailable, plain breadcrumbs or crushed oats can be used.
  • These burgers can be baked in an oven at 190°C (375°F) for 20 minutes as an alternative cooking method.
  • To keep burgers moist, avoid pressing down on them while cooking.
