Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups dairy-free milk (light coconut milk recommended)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp sweetener of choice (e.g. coconut sugar)
- 3 tbsp Dutch-process cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp dairy-free chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Optional Toppings
- Vegan whipped cream
- Additional cocoa powder for dusting
- Vegan chocolate drizzle
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, pour the dairy-free milk, then add cinnamon, a pinch of salt, sweetener, and cocoa powder.
- Mix and Heat: Stir the mixture thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly. Add the dairy-free chocolate chips and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Simmer and Finish: Allow it to simmer for a few seconds, then turn off the heat. Immediately stir in the vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
- Serve and Garnish: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Optionally, top with vegan whipped cream, dust with extra cocoa powder, and drizzle with vegan chocolate before serving. Enjoy your warm, comforting drink!
Notes
- Use light coconut milk for a less rich but still creamy texture, or opt for another dairy-free milk depending on preference.
- Dutch-process cocoa powder gives a smoother and less acidic chocolate flavor, but natural cocoa powder can be used as a substitute.
- Adjust sweetness to taste by modifying the amount or type of sweetener you use.
- For a thicker hot chocolate, increase the amount of cocoa powder or chocolate chips slightly.
- Vegan whipped cream and chocolate drizzle are optional toppings to elevate the drink but can be omitted for a simpler version.
