Ingredients
For the Patties
- 4 pounds lean ground beef
- ½ cup white onion, finely diced
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 3 Tbsp homemade hamburger seasoning
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
For Assembly
- ½ cup homemade BBQ sauce
- 12 slices provolone cheese
- 12 hamburger buns
Instructions
- Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the lean ground beef, finely diced white onion, eggs, breadcrumbs, homemade hamburger seasoning, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix thoroughly with your hands or a spoon until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Shape the Patties: Divide the meat mixture evenly into 12 portions and shape each into a round, flat patty approximately the same diameter as the hamburger buns.
- Preheat the BBQ Grill: Light your grill and heat it to medium-high, around 375-400°F (190-204°C), preparing it for direct grilling of the patties.
- Grill the Patties: Place the patties on the grill grates and cook for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness, flipping once. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy—target 160°F (71°C) for well-done beef.
- Add BBQ Sauce and Cheese: During the last 2 minutes of cooking, brush each patty generously with homemade BBQ sauce and lay a slice of provolone cheese on top to melt slightly.
- Toast the Buns: Optionally, place the hamburger buns cut side down on the grill for 1-2 minutes until lightly toasted and warm.
- Assemble the Burgers: Place each cooked patty with melted cheese onto a toasted bun bottom, add any additional toppings if desired, then cover with the bun top.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the BBQ hamburgers immediately with your favorite sides such as fries, coleslaw, or a fresh salad.
Notes
- For juicier burgers, avoid overmixing the meat mixture.
- Use homemade BBQ sauce for fresh flavor; store-bought can be substituted if needed.
- The homemade hamburger seasoning can include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
- Ensure the grill is clean and well-oiled to prevent patties from sticking.
- Let cooked patties rest for a few minutes before assembling to retain juices.
