Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 large yellow onion
- 1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the onion.
- Prepare the onion: Cut off both ends of the large yellow onion. Using a melon baller or a spoon, carefully scoop out the center of the onion approximately halfway down, creating a hollow cavity for the seasoning.
- Season the onion: Place the onion in the center of a large piece of aluminum foil positioned on a rimmed baking sheet. In a small bowl, mix together the Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, kosher salt, dried parsley, garlic powder, and black pepper. Scoop half of this spice mixture into the hollowed-out onion and sprinkle the other half evenly over the surface of the onion. Pour the melted butter into the cavity as well.
- Seal and bake: Bring the sides of the aluminum foil together to form a packet tightly enclosing the onion. Place the baking sheet with the foil packet into the oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the onion is tender and infused with the spices.
- Serve: Carefully remove the onion from the oven and open the foil packet. Serve the baked seasoned onion immediately while warm as a delicious side dish or appetizer.
Notes
- Use a sharp knife to cut the ends of the onion safely.
- Scooping the onion halfway ensures it holds enough seasoning without collapsing.
- If you prefer, you can substitute butter with olive oil for a slightly different flavor and dietary preference.
- Adjust the seasoning amounts to taste for milder or spicier flavor.
- Be cautious when opening the foil packet to avoid hot steam.
