This Spaghetti Pie is a comforting baked pasta dish featuring layers of spaghetti mixed with seasoned ground beef, creamy ricotta and cream cheese, marinara sauce, and topped with melted mozzarella. Perfect for family dinners, it combines rich flavors and a satisfying cheesy crust in a deep pie pan or baking dish.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Cheese Layer

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 3 tablespoons cream cheese
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

Pasta

  • ½ lb. spaghetti
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs (whisked)

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (mild flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 24 oz. marinara sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare Bakeware: Use a deep 9 or 10-inch pie pan, or a 2 to 2½ quart baking dish for assembling the pie.
  2. Mix Cheese Layer: In a medium bowl, combine ricotta, cream cheese, salt, dried basil, parsley, oregano, and pepper. Set aside. Measure all remaining ingredients to ensure readiness. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Boil Spaghetti: Bring a salted pot of water to a boil for cooking the spaghetti.
  4. Cook Ground Beef: Season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the beef and diced onions. Cook, stirring and crumbling the beef, for 7–10 minutes until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease.
  5. Add Aromatics and Sauce: Lower the heat to medium, then add minced garlic, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 2 minutes, then stir in marinara sauce. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered while spaghetti cooks.
  6. Cook Spaghetti Al Dente: Add spaghetti to boiling water and cook until al dente per package instructions. Drain spaghetti and return it to the warm pot.
  7. Mix Pasta: Stir in butter and Parmesan cheese to the hot spaghetti until coated. Add whisked eggs and toss thoroughly to combine.
  8. Combine Spaghetti with Meat Sauce: Stir 1½ cups of the meat sauce into the spaghetti mixture. Remove from heat and press this mixture evenly into the prepared pie pan or baking dish to create a packed base layer.
  9. Add Cheese and Sauce Layers: Spread the ricotta and cream cheese mixture evenly over the spaghetti layer. Top with the remaining meat sauce, spreading evenly. The pan will be full but this ensures good layering.
  10. Top with Mozzarella and Bake: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes or until cheese is fully melted and hot. Optionally, broil at 450°F for a few minutes to brown the cheese, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  11. Rest Before Serving: Remove the spaghetti pie from the oven and let it rest for 10–15 minutes to set properly. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use a deep pie pan or similarly sized baking dish to accommodate the fullness of the layers.
  • Ground beef can be substituted with ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for dietary variations.
  • Marinara sauce can be store-bought or homemade according to preference.
  • The hot sauce adds depth of flavor without significant heat; adjust or omit if desired.
  • Allowing the pie to rest after baking helps it firm up, making it easier to slice and serve.
