Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
Butter and Cream Cheese
- 4 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
- ¼ cup cream cheese (2 ounces), cold and cubed
Wet Ingredients
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- Additional butter for brushing on top
- Flaky salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 500ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Combine Dry Ingredients and Fat: In a food processor, pulse together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the cold cubed butter and cream cheese and pulse until the mixture resembles pea-sized crumbs, creating a flaky texture.
- Add Buttermilk and Form Dough: Pour in the buttermilk and pulse just until the dough comes together. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and shape it into a rectangle. Cut this rectangle into thirds and stack the pieces on top of each other. Roll the dough into a rectangle again and repeat this folding process two more times to build layers.
- Shape Biscuits: Roll the folded dough into a large rectangle about 1 inch thick. Using a biscuit cutter, cut out circles or use a knife to cut into 2-inch squares. Place the shaped biscuits on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with flaky salt for extra flavor and texture.
- Bake Biscuits: Place the baking sheet with unbaked biscuits into the preheated oven and immediately reduce the temperature to 450ºF. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until the biscuits turn golden brown and fluffy. Remove from oven and serve warm.
