Ingredients
Fudge Base
- 397 g (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 350 g (2 ½ cups + 3 tbsp) dark chocolate
Caramel Peanut Layer
- 300 g (10.5 oz) soft caramel sweets
- 1.5 tbsp water
- 250 g (1 ¾ cups + 1 tbsp) salted peanuts
Chocolate Topping
- 170 g (1 ¼ cups + 1 tbsp) milk chocolate
Instructions
- Prepare the Tin: Line an 8″ x 8″ baking tin with parchment paper and set it aside. This prevents the fudge from sticking and makes for easy removal later.
- Melt Fudge Base: In a saucepan over low heat or in short bursts in the microwave, melt the sweetened condensed milk together with the dark chocolate, stirring continuously until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
- Set Fudge Base: Pour the melted dark chocolate fudge mixture into the prepared tin, spreading it evenly and leveling the surface. Place the tin in the refrigerator to chill while you prepare the next layer.
- Make Caramel Peanut Layer: In a clean saucepan or bowl, melt the soft caramel sweets with 1.5 tablespoons of water over low heat, stirring until smooth. Once melted, stir in the salted peanuts, making sure all nuts are evenly coated with the caramel.
- Add Caramel Peanut Layer: Remove the fudge base from the fridge and spoon blobs of the caramel peanut mixture on top. Spread it evenly to cover the surface fully, pushing the mixture into the corners and leveling the top. Return the tin to the refrigerator.
- Melt Milk Chocolate Topping: Place the milk chocolate in a small microwave-safe bowl and melt in short bursts, stirring frequently until smooth.
- Top with Milk Chocolate: Pour the melted milk chocolate over the caramel peanut layer. Spread it out evenly, then gently shake the tin to smooth the surface.
- Chill to Set: Return the fudge to the fridge and chill for several hours or ideally overnight until completely set.
- Serve: Once set, remove from the tin using the parchment paper, cut into 16 squares, and enjoy your homemade Snickers Fudge!
Notes
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and make removal easy.
- Melting chocolates in short bursts in the microwave and stirring prevents burning.
- Melt caramels gently with water to achieve a smooth texture and avoid graininess.
- Chilling time is important to ensure the fudge sets properly for clean slicing.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- For a nut-free version, omit salted peanuts and replace with additional caramel or crispy rice for texture.
