Ingredients
Primary Ingredients
- 1 (15 oz) can pumpkin purée, or homemade pumpkin purée
- ⅓ cup apple cider
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, or ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the pumpkin purée, apple cider, brown sugar, granulated sugar, maple syrup, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cloves together over medium-high heat.
- Bring to Boil: Heat the mixture until it comes to a boil, stirring occasionally to ensure everything is well combined.
- Simmer & Cook: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan. Let it simmer gently, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking or burning, for about 30 minutes until the mixture thickens to a spreadable consistency.
- Cool Down: Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the pumpkin butter to cool completely. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Adjust Seasoning: Taste your pumpkin butter and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding more spice or sweetness according to your preference.
- Store Properly: Transfer the cooled pumpkin butter into an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. Use as desired on toast, baked goods, or as a flavorful addition to your favorite recipes.
Notes
- Stir frequently near the end of cooking to prevent sticking or burning at the bottom of the pan.
