Ingredients
Monkey Bread
- 2 cans biscuit dough (about 16 oz each)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/8 cup ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup butter (use 1/4 cup butter for a lighter version)
Simple Glaze
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Prepare the dough balls: Break each biscuit into small pieces and roll into balls approximately 3 tablespoons in size. This ensures even coated pieces for the bread.
- Grease the pan: Generously butter or spray a deep-dish loaf pan or bundt pan to prevent sticking and help create the crispy, caramelized crust.
- Mix cinnamon sugar: In a medium bowl, combine the ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, and brown sugar, stirring thoroughly to blend the flavors evenly.
- Coat dough balls: Roll each biscuit ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated, ensuring each bite will be flavorful and sweet.
- Layer the dough: Arrange a single layer of the coated dough balls at the bottom of the prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar over this first layer. Add a second layer of dough balls, then sprinkle the remaining brown sugar on top.
- Add butter: Melt the butter and pour it evenly over the layered dough balls. This will melt into the sugar, creating a deliciously sticky texture during baking.
- Bake: Place the pan in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 45 minutes. The monkey bread should be golden brown on top and fully cooked through—avoid underbaking to prevent doughy centers.
- Make the glaze: While the bread bakes, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth to create a simple sweet glaze.
- Serve: Once out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the warm monkey bread slices before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.
Notes
- You can use a bundt pan instead of a loaf pan for a more traditional monkey bread shape.
- For less rich monkey bread, reduce butter to 1/4 cup.
- Make sure the monkey bread is thoroughly baked through to avoid raw dough centers; use a toothpick test if needed.
- Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
- Leftover monkey bread can be reheated gently in the oven or microwave.
