This Miso Salmon recipe features succulent salmon fillets marinated in a flavorful blend of white miso paste, soy sauce, honey, and fresh lime, then perfectly broiled to achieve a tender, flaky texture with a beautifully caramelized top. Ready in just 20 minutes and serving four, it’s an easy yet impressive dish that brings together savory, sweet, and tangy flavors for a deliciously balanced meal.

  • Total Time: 16 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 4 (6 oz each) skinless salmon fillets (about 3/4-inch thick)

Marinade

  • 3 Tbsp white miso paste (Trader Joe’s recommended for mild saltiness)
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce (or tamari)
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 Tbsp avocado oil (or peanut oil)
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 tsp lime zest
  • 1 tsp finely grated ginger
  • 1 tsp finely minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil

Garnish (optional)

  • 2 Tbsp sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the salmon: Place the skinless salmon fillets into a resealable gallon-size plastic bag, ensuring they are laid flat and not overcrowded.
  2. Make the marinade: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together white miso paste, soy sauce, honey, avocado oil, fresh lime juice, lime zest, finely grated ginger, minced garlic, and toasted sesame oil until well combined and smooth.
  3. Marinate the salmon: Reserve 1 1/2 tablespoons of the marinade by setting it aside in the fridge. Pour the remaining marinade over the salmon in the bag and gently turn to coat each fillet evenly. Seal the bag, press out excess air, and refrigerate for 30 to 60 minutes—not longer to maintain optimum texture and flavor.
  4. Preheat the broiler: Move your oven rack about 7 inches from the broiler element and preheat the broiler on high for 3 minutes to get it ready for cooking.
  5. Prepare for broiling: Lightly spray a medium baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Remove the reserved marinade from the refrigerator to take the chill off. Carefully remove the salmon from the bag, letting excess marinade drip off, and place the fillets on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Broil the salmon: Place the baking sheet under the hot broiler and cook the salmon for about 5 to 6 minutes, or until the interior reaches your desired doneness. To prevent the salmon from over-browning, have a sheet of foil ready to tent over the fillets as needed.
  7. Finish and serve: Remove the salmon from the oven and brush the fillets with the reserved marinade for an extra layer of flavor. Garnish with sliced green onions if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Do not marinate the salmon for longer than 60 minutes to avoid a mushy texture from the miso.
  • Use skinless salmon for even cooking and better marinade absorption.
  • If your broiler has a high and low option, always use the high setting for this recipe.
  • To prevent over-browning, tent the salmon with foil partway through broiling if it browns too quickly.
  • For gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
