Ingredients
Matcha Mixture
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ceremonial-grade matcha
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 2 tablespoons hot water (175°F, not boiling)
Milk
- 3/4 cup plain milk, steamed (commonly oat milk)
Instructions
- Dissolve the matcha. Use a fine-mesh strainer to sift the matcha powder into a heatproof measuring cup or a small bowl with a spout. Add the sugar, then pour the hot water (at 175°F, not boiling) over the mixture. Using a bamboo whisk, vigorously whisk the mixture in a ‘W’ motion for 30-45 seconds until all clumps dissolve and the mixture becomes slightly foamy.
- Combine. Pour the whisked matcha mixture into a mug, then gently top with the steamed milk, ensuring a smooth blend of flavors and creamy texture.
- Serve. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy your vibrant, frothy matcha latte.
Notes
- For a dairy-free option, use oat milk or any preferred plant-based milk.
- Adjust sugar quantity or omit entirely based on personal preference for sweetness.
- Ensure water is hot but not boiling to prevent bitterness and preserve the delicate flavor of matcha.
- Use a bamboo whisk (chasen) for best frothing results, but a small regular whisk or milk frother can be substituted.
- Enjoy fresh, as matcha lattes are best consumed immediately to preserve texture and flavor.
