Ingredients
Whipped Jalapeno Cream Cheese
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened at room temperature
- 1 jalapeno, seeded and finely minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Scallion Filling
- 2 cups finely chopped scallions (about 2 bunches)
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
Croissants and Topping
- 6 large store-bought croissants
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare the Whipped Jalapeno Cream Cheese: Beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Mix in the finely minced jalapeno and 1/2 teaspoon salt for seasoning. Gradually beat in the heavy cream, a little at a time, until the mixture becomes light, airy, and pipeable. Transfer this mixture to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a corner snipped for easy filling.
- Make the Scallion Filling: In a bowl, stir together the finely chopped scallions, melted butter, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon sugar, and white pepper until well combined and flavorful.
- Fill the Croissants: Cut a slit along the top of each croissant without cutting all the way through. Pipe a generous amount of the jalapeno cream cheese inside each croissant slit. Then spoon the scallion butter mixture over the top of each, gently pressing it down to adhere well.
- Apply Maple Glaze and Sugar: Arrange the filled croissants evenly on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with maple syrup, then sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over the syrup for a sweet, crisp finish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven on the middle rack for 10-12 minutes, or until the maple syrup bubbles and sets into a crisp, caramelized coating. Keep an eye on the croissants toward the end, as the maple sugar can scorch quickly.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the croissants from the oven and allow them to rest for about 5 minutes on the baking sheet. Serve warm to enjoy the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Use store-bought croissants for convenience, but slightly stale croissants can hold fillings better.
- Adjust jalapeno amount based on preferred spice level.
- If you don’t have heavy cream, you can substitute with whole milk, but the texture may be less fluffy.
- Watch the baking closely as maple syrup can burn quickly at high heat.
- Best served warm, so consume shortly after baking for optimal texture.
