This Mangonada recipe delivers a vibrant and refreshing Mexican-inspired mango drink, featuring a creamy mango smoothie blended with mango nectar and lime juice, layered with tangy chamoy sauce, and finished with a spicy Tajín rim and tamarindo straw. Perfect for a cool summer treat, this recipe combines sweet, sour, and spicy flavors for an exciting and delicious beverage.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients

Smoothie Ingredients

  • 10 ounces frozen mango (approximately 2 cups)
  • 12 ounces mango nectar or juice
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice

Glass Preparation & Toppings

  • ½ cup chamoy sauce
  • ¼ cup tamarind chamoy rim paste
  • Tajín seasoning, to taste
  • Fresh mango, diced, for topping
  • 4 tamarindo straws for serving

Instructions

  1. Blend Mango Smoothie: Add frozen mango, mango nectar, and fresh lime juice into a blender. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick, add a bit more mango nectar or water until you reach the desired consistency.
  2. Adjust Flavor: Taste the smoothie and add sugar if it’s too tart; usually, extra sugar is not necessary. You can also add a bit more lime juice if you prefer a tangier flavor.
  3. Prepare Glass Rim: Dip the rim of each glass into the tamarind chamoy rim paste, then coat it evenly with Tajín seasoning to create a flavorful and spicy border.
  4. Add Chamoy Base: Pour a small amount of chamoy sauce into the bottom of each prepared glass to start layering the flavors.
  5. Layer Smoothie and Chamoy: Alternately pour mango smoothie and chamoy sauce into the glass, layering until the glass is filled. This creates a beautiful swirl and mixes sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors with every sip.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Top each serving with fresh diced mango and a sprinkle of Tajín seasoning. Serve with a tamarindo straw to sip and enjoy the full tangy and spicy mango experience.

Notes

  • Frozen mango can be substituted with fresh mango chunks and ice cubes for a fresher smoothie.
  • If mango nectar is unavailable, replace with pure mango juice or a combination of mango juice and water.
  • Adjust the amount of chamoy and Tajín seasoning to suit your spice tolerance.
  • For a cold and refreshing drink, chill glasses before serving.
  • Can be made vegan by ensuring chamoy and tamarind pastes are vegan-friendly.
