This Honey Garlic Shrimp recipe features succulent, large shrimp cooked in a sticky, flavorful sauce made from honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. Ready in just 30 minutes, it’s a quick and delicious dish perfect for weeknight dinners or entertaining guests, garnished with scallions and toasted sesame seeds for added texture and flavor.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Shrimp

  • 1 ½ pounds large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (such as canola or vegetable oil)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 3 garlic cloves (finely grated)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (finely grated)
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil

Garnish

  • 2 scallions (thinly sliced)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, grated garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil until fully combined. Set this mixture aside for later use.
  2. Cook the shrimp. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the shrimp evenly with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the hot skillet and cook for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and start to curl slightly. Remove the cooked shrimp from the pan and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce reduction. Pour the prepared sauce mixture into the hot skillet. Let it cook for approximately 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce slightly thickens and becomes sticky.
  4. Coat the shrimp. Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and stir well to coat them evenly with the sticky sauce. Continue cooking for another 1 to 2 minutes until the shrimp develop a glossy finish and are heated through.
  5. Garnish and serve. Remove the skillet from heat. Sprinkle the sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds over the shrimp. Serve the dish immediately, perfect over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the shrimp in the sauce mixture for 10 minutes before cooking.
  • Use fresh garlic and ginger for the best taste and aroma.
  • Adjust the amount of honey to taste if you prefer a sweeter or less sweet dish.
  • Serve with steamed rice, quinoa, or noodles to make it a complete meal.
  • To toast sesame seeds, heat them in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until fragrant and lightly browned.
