Delicious and indulgent homemade Take 5 Bites, featuring layers of crunchy pretzel snaps, creamy peanut butter filling, caramel drizzle, and a smooth chocolate coating. Perfect for satisfying sweet and salty cravings with a delightful texture in every bite.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes (including chilling time)
  • Yield: 24 servings

Ingredients

Base and Filling

  • 72 pretzel snaps (two layers of 36)
  • 1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk (optional, to thin)

Caramel Layer

  • 11 ounce bag caramel squares (such as Brach’s or Werther’s)
  • 2 tablespoons water

Chocolate Coating

  • 10 ounces chocolate chips or melting wafers (milk or semi-sweet)

Instructions

  1. Prepare baking sheet: Line an 18×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and allow easy removal of the bites.
  2. Arrange pretzels: Place 36 pretzel snaps evenly to cover the bottom of the lined baking sheet, forming the base layer.
  3. Make peanut butter filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the crunchy peanut butter, softened butter, and powdered sugar. Use a hand mixer to blend until smooth and fully combined. If the mixture is too thick, add up to 1 tablespoon of milk to thin it out slightly. Roll the mixture into small balls and press one onto each pretzel on the bottom layer.
  4. Melt caramel: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt caramel squares with water in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each until completely smooth and pourable.
  5. Drizzle caramel: Evenly drizzle the melted caramel over the peanut butter layer covering all bites.
  6. Add top pretzel layer: Carefully place the remaining 36 pretzel snaps over the caramel layer. Gently press down to ensure they adhere.
  7. Chill bites: Refrigerate the assembled sheet for 45 to 60 minutes until the layers are firm and set.
  8. Melt chocolate: Melt the chocolate chips or melting wafers in 30-second intervals in the microwave, stirring between each until smooth.
  9. Coat bites with chocolate: Using a fork, dip each pretzel bite into the melted chocolate, then place them back onto parchment paper.
  10. Set chocolate: Allow the chocolate coating to set at room temperature or place the bites in the refrigerator until the chocolate is firm and fully hardened.

Notes

  • Use crunchy peanut butter for better texture contrast.
  • If the peanut butter mixture is too thick to roll, add milk gradually to reach desired consistency.
  • Be careful when pressing the top pretzel layer to avoid breaking the caramel layer.
  • Store finished bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • For easier dipping, temper the chocolate slightly or add a small amount of vegetable oil.
