Ingredients
Jam Ingredients
- 1 lb plums, chopped and pitted
- ⅓ cup water
- 7 Tbsp sugar of choice (Xylitol recommended, adjust to taste)
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 pinches ground cloves
Instructions
- Prep Plums: Chop and pit the plums into 4-8 pieces. Peeling is not necessary, as the skins add flavor and fiber.
- Simmer Plums: Place the chopped plums and water in a saucepan and simmer over medium-low heat for 12-15 minutes to soften the fruit.
- Add Spices and Sugar: Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, and ground cloves. Continue to simmer the mixture for another 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Mash or Blend: Use a potato masher to break down the plums to your desired jam texture. Alternatively, an immersion blender can be used for a smoother consistency.
- Adjust Flavor: Taste the jam and adjust sweetness or spice levels as desired. Optionally, add a little lemon juice for brightness.
- Cool and Store: Let the jam cool slightly before using immediately, or transfer to a clean jar and refrigerate to thicken further and preserve.
Notes
- Using xylitol or other sugar substitutes can help reduce calories and glycemic impact.
- Jam thickens more as it cools in the fridge.
- Feel free to customize spices to your liking, adding nutmeg or vanilla if desired.
- Store jam in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Ensure plums are ripe for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
