Ingredients
Chai Concentrate Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- ½ cup granulated sugar (or less, to taste)
- 16 chai teabags
- 1 tsp chai spice blend
Instructions
- Boil Water and Prepare Tea Bags: Place the 4 cups of water in a sauce pot and set over medium-high heat to bring to a boil. While waiting, tie the 16 chai teabags together and place them in a large glass measuring cup. Add 1 teaspoon of chai spice blend to the measuring cup and set aside.
- Dissolve Sugar in Boiling Water: Once the water reaches a rolling boil, stir in ½ cup of granulated sugar until fully dissolved. Remove the pot from heat immediately after the sugar dissolves.
- Steep Tea and Spices: Carefully pour the sweetened boiling water over the prepared tea bags and chai spice blend in the glass measuring cup. Allow the mixture to steep for 30 minutes, enabling the rich flavors and spices to infuse.
- Strain and Cool: After steeping, remove and discard the tea bags and any residual spices. Let the chai concentrate cool to room temperature.
- Store the Concentrate: Cover the cooled chai concentrate and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use. This concentrate can be combined with milk or milk alternatives and heated or served iced for a refreshing chai latte.
Notes
- You can adjust the sugar amount based on your taste preferences or dietary needs.
- Use a chai spice blend that suits your flavor preference; common spices include cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and black pepper.
- The concentrate can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- For a creamier chai latte, combine the concentrate with steamed milk or a dairy-free milk alternative.
- To serve iced, mix the concentrate with cold milk and ice cubes for a refreshing drink.
