Ingredients
Meat and Seasoning
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper powder
Additional Ingredients
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp water
- 3 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend
- 12 street taco size white corn tortillas (about 5.5″ in diameter)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for baking the tacos.
- Mix Spices: In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and cayenne pepper powder and set aside.
- Prepare Tomato Mixture: In a separate bowl, mix the tomato paste and water until combined and set aside.
- Brown the Ground Beef: Heat a frying pan over medium heat, add the ground beef, and cook for about 5 minutes, breaking it into crumbles as it browns.
- Add Seasonings and Tomato Paste: Reduce the heat to medium-low, then add the spice mixture and tomato paste-water mix to the beef. Stir well and sauté until the beef is fully cooked, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Arrange Tacos for Baking: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay 6 corn tortillas on the sheet and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over them.
- Add Meat to Tacos: Spoon approximately 2 tablespoons of the cooked taco meat onto one side of each tortilla with cheese.
- First Bake: Place the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 3 minutes until the cheese starts melting.
- Fold the Tacos: Remove the tacos from the oven and fold each tortilla in half, pressing down lightly so they hold their shape.
- Second Bake: Return the folded tacos to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp the edges and fully melt the cheese.
- Repeat for Remaining Tacos: Remove the finished tacos and repeat steps 6 through 10 with the remaining 6 tortillas and filling.
- Serve: Allow the baked tacos to cool slightly, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy your delicious ground beef baked tacos!
Notes
- You can customize the spice amounts to suit your heat preference, reducing cayenne if desired.
- Use parchment paper on the baking sheet to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
- Leftover taco meat can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and used in other dishes.
- Top tacos with fresh ingredients like diced onions, cilantro, sour cream, or guacamole for added flavor.
- For a crispy shell, avoid overfilling the tacos before folding and baking.
