Ingredients
Marinade
- ½ cup olive oil
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Steak
- 2 pounds flank steak
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: Whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, minced garlic, crushed red pepper, and black pepper in a bowl until well combined.
- Marinate the Steak: Place the flank steak into a large zip-top bag, then pour the marinade over it. Squeeze out excess air and seal the bag. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, ideally marinating for several hours or up to overnight. Remove the steak from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before grilling to bring it to room temperature.
- Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to a high temperature of approximately 450°F (232°C), preparing for direct cooking.
- Grill the Steak: Place the marinated flank steak on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, adjusting time based on thickness. Aim for an internal temperature of 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare doneness. Cook a few minutes longer if medium is preferred, but be cautious to avoid toughness.
- Rest the Steak: Remove the steak from the grill and transfer it to a cutting board or platter. Loosely cover with aluminum foil and allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes to let juices redistribute.
- Slice and Serve: Slice the steak thinly against the grain to maximize tenderness, then serve immediately and enjoy the flavorful, juicy grilled flank steak.
Notes
- Marinating the steak overnight enhances the flavor and tenderness even more.
- Slicing against the grain is crucial for tenderness, as it shortens the muscle fibers.
- Use an instant-read thermometer for precise doneness and to prevent overcooking.
- Adjust crushed red pepper to your desired spice level.
- Leftover steak can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and is great in salads or sandwiches.
