Ingredients
Chicken
- 1 pound chicken breast, cut into small pieces
Coating
- 1 egg, whisked
- 1 cup gluten free flour
- ½ tsp sea salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
Finishing
- Olive oil spray, as needed
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken: Cut the chicken breast into small, bite-sized pieces ensuring even cooking.
- Prep coating ingredients: Whisk the egg in a shallow bowl. In another shallow bowl, combine the gluten free flour, sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder thoroughly.
- Coat the chicken: Dip each piece of chicken into the whisked egg, making sure it is fully coated, then dredge in the gluten free flour mixture until fully covered.
- Air Fryer cooking (optional): Place coated chicken pieces in the air fryer basket. Generously spray with olive oil. Air fry at 400°F (204°C) for 10 minutes, flipping chicken halfway through the cooking time at 5 minutes for even crisping.
- Oven cooking (alternative): Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Arrange coated chicken pieces on a baking pan and spray generously with olive oil. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, flipping halfway after 10 minutes for consistent browning.
- Serve: Remove the popcorn chicken from the cooking device and serve immediately while crispy and hot.
Notes
- Flipping the chicken halfway through cooking ensures even crispiness on all sides.
- Olive oil spray helps achieve a crispy texture without deep frying.
- Adjust seasoning in the coating mixture to suit your preference.
- Make sure chicken pieces are uniformly sized for even cooking.
- Both air fryer and oven methods work well; air fryer is quicker and more energy efficient.
