Ingredients
Chicken and Seasoning
- 2 lbs chicken tenders, thighs, or breast, cut into 3″ pieces
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Garlic Parmesan Butter Sauce
- 1 stick butter (about 8 tbsp)
- 8-10 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/3 cup fresh parsley, minced
Other
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water for at least 30 minutes
Instructions
- Prep and soak skewers: Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning during cooking.
- Season the chicken: Combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Cut chicken into 3-inch pieces and place in a large bowl or ziptop bag. Add olive oil and the seasoning mix, tossing to coat the chicken evenly.
- Skewer the chicken: Carefully thread the seasoned chicken pieces tightly onto each skewer, leaving no gaps for maximum juiciness. Trim skewers if necessary to fit your air fryer basket.
- Make the garlic parmesan butter sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt butter with minced garlic until partially melted. Whisk in red pepper flakes, hot sauce, parsley, and grated parmesan. If the sauce separates, add 1-2 tablespoons softened butter to re-emulsify.
- Baste the partially cooked chicken: Reserve about one-third of the sauce for basting the chicken while it cooks. Use this reserved sauce to baste the chicken after the first cook cycle, while keeping the rest of the sauce clean for post-cooking basting.
- Air fry the chicken skewers: Place 2-3 skewers at a time in the air fryer. Cook at 400°F for 5 minutes. Remove, flip the skewers, and baste with reserved sauce. Return to the air fryer and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Finish cooking: Flip the skewers again, baste with more sauce, and cook an additional 5-6 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165°F. Total cook time should be about 12-14 minutes but may vary depending on air fryer model.
- Serve: Once cooked, baste with the reserved clean garlic parmesan sauce one last time, sprinkle with extra parmesan, and serve immediately for best flavor and juiciness.
Notes
- Soaking wooden skewers prevents them from burning in the air fryer.
- Ensure chicken pieces are tightly packed on skewers for juicy results.
- Adjust hot sauce and red pepper flakes according to your spice preference.
- Cooking times may vary based on the size of chicken pieces and your air fryer model.
- Use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 165°F for safe consumption.
- You can substitute chicken breasts with thighs or tenders based on preference.
