Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 tsp beef base (paste)
- 1 cup sour cream (natural, such as Tillamook or Daisy)
- 1 tsp dried onion flakes
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 3 Tbsp fried onions*
- 1 tsp minced fresh parsley or dried parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Bowl: Using a spatula, spread the beef base along the edge of a medium mixing bowl. This helps the beef base incorporate smoothly into the dip without clumping.
- Mix Ingredients: Add the sour cream, dried onion flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and ground black pepper into the bowl. Stir thoroughly with the spatula, ensuring the beef base blends evenly into the mixture.
- Chill for Flavor Development (Optional): For a thicker dip with deeper flavors, cover and let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for 30 to 60 minutes. This step is optional, and the dip can be served immediately if desired.
- Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, sprinkle the top with fried onion bits and fresh or dried parsley if using. Serve alongside low sodium potato chips, crackers, or fresh vegetable sticks such as carrots, celery, and bell peppers. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Beef base can be substituted with vegetable base for vegetarians, though flavor profile will differ.
- For a thicker dip, increase resting time in the fridge.
- Adjust Worcestershire and soy sauce quantities to taste for saltiness.
- Use fresh minced parsley to add a bright, herbal note, or omit if unavailable.
- Fried onions add a crunchy texture and authentic flavor, but can be omitted or substituted with crispy shallots.
- Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
