Ingredients
Turkey Filling
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil
- 1.5 lbs lean ground turkey (93/7)
- 1 cup diced red onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced (divided usage)
- 2 tablespoons ground cumin (divided)
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons ancho chili powder
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Cilantro Lime Crema
- 1 garlic clove
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro
- Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons)
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
Toppings & Assembly
- 1 avocado, diced
- ½ cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 10-12 leaves of butter lettuce
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Prepare Cilantro Lime Crema: In a food processor, combine 1 garlic clove, Greek yogurt, cilantro, lime juice, ½ teaspoon ground cumin, salt, and pepper to taste. Blend until smooth and creamy. Set aside while you prepare the turkey filling.
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add avocado oil and diced red onion, cooking until the onion becomes translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes. Add 2 minced garlic cloves and sauté for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Cook Ground Turkey: Add the lean ground turkey to the skillet. Cook, stirring frequently, until the turkey is fully browned and no longer pink, approximately 5 to 7 minutes.
- Season the Turkey: Stir in 1½ tablespoons ground cumin, smoked paprika, ancho chili powder, chili powder, onion powder, ground cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly coat the turkey with the spices. Cook for another minute to let the flavors meld.
- Assemble Lettuce Wraps: Spoon the seasoned turkey mixture onto butter lettuce leaves. Top each wrap with diced avocado, halved cherry tomatoes, fresh cilantro, and a dollop of the prepared cilantro lime crema. Serve immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute ground chicken or turkey sausage if preferred.
- To make it dairy-free, replace Greek yogurt with a vegan yogurt alternative.
- For added crunch, sprinkle some chopped walnuts or toasted pumpkin seeds on top.
- If you want a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce to the turkey while cooking.
- These wraps are best served fresh but can be stored separately in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
