This EASY Passion Fruit Mousse is a light, creamy dessert with the tropical tang of passion fruit. The mousse combines whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk, and passion fruit puree, set with gelatin for a smooth, airy texture. It’s topped with a homemade passion fruit sauce made from fresh pulp and sugar, making it a refreshing treat perfect for warm weather or special occasions.

  • Total Time: 3 hours 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Mousse

  • 2 teaspoons (8g) unflavored gelatin
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 ⅓ cups (290g) heavy cream (cold)
  • 1 can (397g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup (265g) passion fruit pulp or unsweetened juice concentrate

Topping

  • Pulp of two fresh passion fruits with seeds (about ⅓ cup)
  • ¼ cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Hydrate the gelatin: Mix the gelatin and water in a small bowl until the gelatin is fully hydrated. Heat the mixture in the microwave for 30 seconds or using a double boiler until melted. Let it cool slightly before using.
  2. Blend the mousse: In a blender, combine the cold heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, passion fruit pulp, and the melted gelatin. Blend on high for 5 minutes until the mixture is smooth and slightly aerated.
  3. Chill the mousse: Pour the mousse into a large serving bowl or divide evenly among 4 individual dessert glasses. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours to allow the gelatin to set and the mousse to firm up.
  4. Prepare the passion fruit sauce: In a saucepan, combine the fresh passion fruit pulp and sugar. Heat over medium-low flame, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Cool the sauce: Remove the sauce from heat and allow it to cool to room temperature before topping the mousse. You can refrigerate it if not using immediately.
  6. Serve: Once the mousse is set, spoon the passion fruit sauce over the top and serve chilled for a refreshing dessert.

Notes

  • Cooling the gelatin before blending prevents clumping in the mousse.
  • A longer chilling time will result in firmer mousse.
  • If you prefer less sweetness, adjust the amount of sweetened condensed milk accordingly.
  • To omit seeds in the topping, strain the fresh passion fruit pulp before cooking.
  • Use fresh passion fruit or high-quality puree for the best flavor.
