Ingredients
Feta and Toppings
- 6 oz block of feta
- Drizzle of olive oil (about 1 tablespoon)
- ¼ cup roasted pistachios, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons hot honey
- Flaky sea salt, for topping
- Fresh thyme leaves, for topping
- Black pepper, freshly cracked, for topping
For Scooping
- Crackers
- Toasted baguette slices
- Dates
- Apple slices
- Naan triangles
- Pita chips
- Pretzel thins
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Feta: Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C). Grease a small casserole dish, a mini cast-iron pan, or a sheet pan lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking. Place the 6 oz block of feta in the dish and drizzle it with olive oil.
- Bake the Feta: Bake the feta in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. The feta should soften, become melty, and develop a golden brown color around the edges, indicating it’s perfectly baked.
- Top the Baked Feta: Once baked, you can leave the feta in the same dish for serving or carefully transfer it to a serving plate using a spatula. Evenly sprinkle the finely chopped roasted pistachios over the warm feta, then drizzle with 3 tablespoons of hot honey. Finish with a light sprinkle of flaky sea salt, fresh thyme leaves, and freshly cracked black pepper to taste.
- Serve Warm: Serve the baked feta appetizer warm with your choice of crackers, toasted baguette slices, dates, apple slices, naan triangles, pita chips, or pretzel thins for scooping and dipping. Enjoy the mix of textures and flavors!
Notes
- Use a block of good quality feta for the best creaminess and flavor.
- If you prefer less heat, adjust the amount of hot honey or use a milder honey alternative.
- Roasted pistachios add a wonderful crunch; you can substitute with roasted almonds or walnuts if desired.
- This appetizer is best served warm but can be reheated gently in the oven if needed.
- Pair with a dry white wine or sparkling water with lemon for a refreshing balance.
