Delightful Strawberry Cake Balls made from a moist strawberry cake base combined with creamy cream cheese, coated in luscious chocolate and decorated with candy hearts for a festive touch. Perfect for parties, celebrations, or a sweet treat anytime.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 45 minutes (including chilling time)
  • Yield: Approximately 30 cake balls

Ingredients

Cake Balls

  • 1 box strawberry cake mix, baked according to package directions and cooled
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature

Coating and Decoration

  • 12 oz chocolate candy melts
  • 4 oz white candy melts
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 Tbsp small candy hearts

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cake: Bake the strawberry cake mix according to the package instructions. Allow it to cool completely to room temperature before proceeding to the next step.
  2. Make Cake Mixture: Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl. Add the softened cream cheese and mix thoroughly until a smooth and uniform dough-like consistency is achieved.
  3. Form Cake Balls: Using your hands or a small scoop, shape the mixture into bite-sized balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  4. Melt Chocolate Coating: In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt the chocolate candy melts and white candy melts respectively. Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to each to ensure smooth consistency. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring well in between until fully melted.
  5. Coat Cake Balls: Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate coating. Allow excess chocolate to drip off before placing the cake balls back on parchment paper.
  6. Decorate: While the chocolate coating is still wet, sprinkle small candy hearts on top of the white chocolate-coated cake balls for decoration.
  7. Set and Serve: Refrigerate the coated cake balls until the chocolate is fully set, approximately 30 minutes. Serve chilled or at room temperature as a delightful bite-sized dessert.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened to make mixing easier and achieve a smooth texture.
  • Refrigerating the cake balls before dipping helps them hold their shape while coating.
  • The coconut oil in the chocolate melts makes the coating shinier and easier to dip.
  • Store cake balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • You can use different colored candy melts or sprinkles to customize the look to any celebration.
