Ingredients
Seasoning Mix
- 2 tablespoons cornmeal
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Sea salt flakes, to taste
Fish
- 2 white fish fillets (such as catfish or cod)
- Low calorie cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for a crispy coating.
- Prepare the Seasoning Mix: In a small bowl, combine the cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, and sea salt flakes. Transfer this seasoning blend into a large Ziploc bag.
- Coat the Fish Fillets: Rinse the white fish fillets under cold water, then pat them dry thoroughly with a paper towel. Place the fillets into the Ziploc bag containing the seasoning mixture.
- Shake to Coat: Seal the bag securely and shake vigorously until each fillet is evenly coated with the seasoning and cornmeal mixture.
- Air Fry the Fish: Place the coated fillets into the air fryer basket. If your air fryer is small, cook the fillets one at a time to avoid overcrowding. Lightly spray the fillets with low calorie cooking spray to aid browning and crispiness.
- Cook the First Side: Close the air fryer and cook the fish fillets for 10 minutes at 400°F (200°C).
- Flip and Finish Cooking: Carefully turn the fillets over and continue cooking for an additional 3 to 4 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the coating is golden and crispy.
- Serve: Remove the fillets from the air fryer and serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- If using a small air fryer, cook the fish fillets one at a time to ensure even cooking.
- Use fresh white fish fillets such as catfish, cod, or haddock for the best results.
- Adjust seasoning levels according to your taste, especially the salt and Cajun seasoning.
- For extra crunch, add a tablespoon of grated Parmesan to the seasoning mix.
- Spray the fillets lightly with cooking spray to promote browning without adding excess fat.
- Check the fish at the end of cooking to prevent overcooking, as air fryers vary in heat intensity.
