A quick and easy recipe for crispy chicken breast cooked to perfection in an air fryer. The chicken is seasoned, coated with a flavorful breadcrumb mixture, and air-fried for a deliciously crisp texture without the added oil of traditional frying.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 2 large Chicken Breasts
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper

Breading and Seasoning

  • 1/2 cup Fine Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dried Thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chili Powder (or Paprika)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chicken: Cut chicken breasts into cutlets or fillets. Use a meat mallet or rolling pin to pound any thick parts to an even thickness for uniform cooking.
  2. Season Chicken: Mix together oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Coat each chicken cutlet thoroughly with this mixture to add flavor and help the breading stick.
  3. Prepare Breading: In a separate bowl, combine breadcrumbs, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and chili powder. Mix well to evenly distribute the spices.
  4. Coat Chicken: Place one chicken cutlet at a time into the breadcrumb mixture. Press gently to ensure the mixture sticks on both sides. Repeat for all cutlets.
  5. Arrange in Air Fryer: Place the coated chicken breasts in the air fryer tray, spacing them slightly apart to ensure even cooking and crisping.
  6. Cook Chicken: Set the air fryer temperature to 200 °C (390 °F). Cook for 8-9 minutes, then flip the chicken cutlets and cook for an additional 4 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Rest and Serve: Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes after cooking before slicing. This helps retain the juices for a tender bite.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can spray a light mist of oil on the chicken before air frying.
  • Ensure chicken pieces are not overlapping in the air fryer to allow proper airflow and even cooking.
  • Adjust seasoning according to taste; add more chili powder for extra heat or substitute with smoked paprika for a smoky flavor.
  • Letting the chicken rest after cooking helps keep it juicy instead of dry.
  • This recipe can be doubled easily to serve more people.
