Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 4 cups large flake rolled oats
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 1/2 cup ground flaxseed
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 3 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
- 1 egg white (whisked until frothy)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 300 °F (150 °C). Line a large baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper to prevent sticking and allow even baking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, raw almonds, ground flaxseed, cocoa powder, and fine sea salt. Stir well to distribute all ingredients evenly.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup and melted coconut oil until fully combined. Add the frothy egg white to the wet mixture and whisk gently to incorporate.
- Combine and Mix: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients bowl. Stir thoroughly until the cocoa oats and nuts are evenly coated with the wet mixture, ensuring a uniform blend.
- Spread and Bake: Evenly spread the granola mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 35 to 50 minutes, typically 40 minutes works well. Rotate the pan 180 degrees halfway through cooking (after about 20 minutes) to ensure even baking.
- Cool and Store: Remove the granola from the oven and allow it to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, break the granola into chunks or clusters and store it in an airtight container to maintain its crispness.
Notes
- Rotate the pan halfway to promote even baking and prevent hot spots.
- Ensure the egg white is whisked until frothy to help bind the granola together while baking.
- Store granola in an airtight container to keep it fresh and crunchy for up to two weeks.
- For a nuttier flavor, try toasting the almonds lightly before mixing.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup according to preference.
