Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 20 Medjool dates
- 100 g dark chocolate (or preferred chocolate)
- Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling
- Crushed nuts, for topping
Nut Butter and Nut Combinations (choose one flavor)
- ⅓ cup peanut butter + 20 peanuts
- ⅓ cup hazelnut butter + 20 hazelnuts
- ⅓ cup almond butter + 20 almonds
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate: Using a double boiler method or microwave, gently melt the dark chocolate until smooth and glossy. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- Prepare the dates: Carefully slice each Medjool date lengthwise using a knife or your fingers, making sure to open and remove the pit without cutting all the way through the other side, so the date remains partially intact.
- Fill the dates: Spoon approximately one teaspoon of your chosen natural nut butter inside each date. Spread the nut butter evenly on both sides of the inner cavity, then insert one whole nut (peanut, hazelnut, or almond) into the center.
- Coat in chocolate: Close the date gently and dip it fully into the melted chocolate using your fingers, a toothpick, or a fork. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off before transferring the coated date onto a parchment-lined tray.
- Garnish and set: Before the chocolate sets, sprinkle the coated dates with crushed nuts and flaky sea salt for added texture and flavor. Place the tray in the freezer for 20-30 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden completely.
- Serve and enjoy: Remove the chocolate dates from the freezer and enjoy as a decadent yet nutritious snack or dessert.
Notes
- Medjool dates are preferred for their large size and soft, sweet flesh.
- You can customize the nut butter and nut combination to suit your taste preferences or dietary needs.
- Make sure not to slice the date all the way through to keep the filling intact.
- If using a microwave to melt chocolate, heat in short bursts (20-30 seconds) and stir frequently to avoid burning.
- Store leftover chocolate dates in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- For a dairy-free version, use vegan chocolate.
