Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2/3 cup old fashioned oats
- 2 tablespoons chia seeds
Fruit
- 2 cups frozen or fresh cherries
- 1 banana, diced
Liquid
- 1 cup unsweetened cashew milk (or other non-dairy milk)
Sweeteners & Flavorings
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Other
- 1/2 cup ice (or 1 cup if using fresh cherries)
Instructions
- Prepare dry ingredients: Place the oats and chia seeds into a blender. Blend on high speed until they are pulverized into a fine powder, which helps create a smoother texture in the final smoothie.
- Add remaining ingredients: To the pulverized oat and chia seed mixture, add the cherries, diced banana, unsweetened cashew milk, honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, almond extract, and half a cup of ice. Use one cup of ice if you are using fresh cherries to maintain the chilled consistency.
- Blend until smooth: Blend all the ingredients on high until the mixture is completely smooth. Stop once or twice to scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure even blending.
- Serve: Pour the smoothie into glasses. Optionally, garnish with extra chia seeds and fresh cherries for visual appeal and an added texture boost.
Notes
- Using frozen cherries helps achieve a creamy, chilled texture without needing excessive ice.
- If preferred, other non-dairy milks like almond or oat milk can be substituted for cashew milk.
- Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of honey or maple syrup according to personal taste.
- For a thicker smoothie, use less liquid or add more oats or chia seeds.
- This smoothie is best consumed immediately to enjoy the fresh flavors and optimal texture.
