Ingredients
Donuts
- 6 Donuts with White Icing
Broken Glass Candy
- 1 cup Sugar
- 6 tablespoons Water
- ⅓ cup Corn Syrup
‘Blood’ Drizzle
- ½ cup Corn Syrup
- 1 tablespoon Corn Starch
- Red Food Coloring, several drops
Instructions
- Prepare Candy Mixture: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In a pot, combine the sugar, 6 tablespoons of water, and ⅓ cup corn syrup. Bring it to a boil, then continue boiling until the mixture reaches 300ºF (hard crack stage) using a candy thermometer.
- Create Candy Sheet: Pour the hot candy mixture onto the lined baking sheet, spreading it evenly. Allow it to sit at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours until it hardens completely.
- Break Candy into Pieces: Once hardened, use a spoon to gently break the candy sheet into shard-like pieces that will resemble broken glass.
- Make ‘Blood’ Drizzle: In a small mixing bowl, combine ½ cup corn syrup, 1 tablespoon corn starch, and several drops of red food coloring. Mix until fully blended and smooth.
- Decorate Donuts: Drizzle the red corn syrup ‘blood’ mixture over the white-iced donuts for a dripping effect. Carefully place the candy shards on top of the donuts to create the broken glass appearance.
- Serve and Enjoy: Present the donuts immediately for best visual impact and serve to guests as a fun, festive treat.
Notes
- Use a candy thermometer for accurate hard crack temperature to prevent candy from being too soft or burnt.
- Handle the hard candy shards carefully as they can be sharp.
- Ensure parchment paper is well positioned to prevent candy from sticking.
- Red food coloring amount can be adjusted for desired bloodiness.
- Store decorated donuts in a cool, dry place to avoid candy melting or becoming sticky.
