Ingredients
Ground Beef Filling
- 1 lb ground beef (70-80% lean)
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ tsp cumin
- ½ tsp dried Mexican oregano
- ¼ tsp granulated garlic
- ¼ tsp granulated onion
- ½ cup tomato sauce
Tortillas
- 8 white corn tortillas
- ½ cup oil (avocado or vegetable oil)
Instructions
- Cook Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and break it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until fully browned and no longer pink.
- Drain Excess Grease: Carefully drain any grease from the skillet and return it to low heat.
- Season Beef: Stir in the tomato sauce along with chili powder, salt, cumin, oregano, granulated garlic, and granulated onion until the beef is fully coated.
- Simmer: Let the beef mixture simmer gently on low heat for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Fry Tortillas: In a medium-sized skillet, heat ½ cup of oil over medium-high heat. Test that the oil is hot by dipping a tortilla in it; if it sizzles, it is ready. Fry each tortilla about 30 seconds per side until lightly crisp and colored.
- Shape Tortillas: Remove the fried tortillas to a paper towel to absorb the excess oil. While still warm, carefully fold each tortilla to form a taco shape, using tongs or forks to hold and shape them.
- Assemble Tacos: Fill the shaped tortillas with the seasoned ground beef and add your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, lettuce, salsa, or guacamole.
Notes
- Use ground beef with 70-80% lean content for the best flavor and texture.
- Be cautious when frying tortillas; keep an eye on oil temperature to avoid burning.
- Customize toppings to your preference for added flavor and texture.
- For a healthier option, reduce oil used for frying or warm the tortillas instead of frying.
- Leftover beef mixture can be refrigerated up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
