- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
Nacho Base and Toppings
- 13 oz tortilla chips (1 bag)
- 1 large green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small red onion, finely diced
- ½ cup black olives, sliced
- 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
- 1 Roma tomato, diced
- Fresh cilantro
Servings
- Salsa, for serving
- Sour cream, for serving
- Guacamole, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (204°C) and prepare a sheet pan by coating it with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Sauté Garlic: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until it’s no longer pink, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain off any excess fat from the pan.
- Season Beef: Stir in chili powder, paprika, cumin, dried oregano, and cayenne pepper. Continue cooking for 2 minutes while mixing well to combine the spices thoroughly. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Layer Chips and Toppings: Spread half of the tortilla chips evenly on the prepared sheet pan. Top with half of the seasoned beef mixture, then add half of the diced green bell pepper, red onion, black olives, Monterey Jack cheese, and cheddar cheese.
- Repeat Layers: Add the remaining tortilla chips on top and repeat the layering process with the rest of the beef, vegetables, and cheeses.
- Bake Nachos: Place the sheet pan in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.
- Add Fresh Toppings: Remove the nachos from the oven and sprinkle with thinly sliced jalapeño, diced Roma tomato, and fresh cilantro for brightness and added flavor.
- Serve: Serve the nachos warm with salsa, sour cream, and guacamole on the side for dipping.
Notes
- You can customize the toppings by adding beans, corn, or jalapeños according to your taste.
- For extra crunch, layer chips and toppings gently to avoid crushing the chips.
- If you prefer spicier nachos, leave the seeds in the jalapeño or add hot sauce.
- To make ahead, prepare the beef mixture and store separately, then assemble and bake just before serving.
- Use low-fat cheese or turkey ground beef for a lighter option.
