This Ground Beef Tortellini recipe is a comforting and easy-to-make meal featuring tender tortellini pasta simmered with savory ground beef and a rich marinara sauce, topped with creamy mozzarella cheese baked to golden perfection. Perfect for a weeknight dinner, it combines hearty flavors with creamy textures for a satisfying dish.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Meat and Seasonings

  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef (or Italian sausage, ground turkey)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon jarred minced garlic

Sauce and Pasta

  • 14 ounces marinara sauce (or pasta sauce, meat sauce)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 9 ounces tortellini

Cheese

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cubed (room temperature)
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F to prepare for baking the assembled dish.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: Heat a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and crumbly, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add Seasonings: Stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, and jarred minced garlic until well combined with the beef.
  4. Add Sauce and Water: Pour in the marinara sauce and water, stirring until fully combined.
  5. Simmer with Tortellini: Reduce heat to low, then add the tortellini to the saucepan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the tortellini are warmed through, about 10 minutes.
  6. Blend in Cream Cheese: Add the cubed cream cheese to the tortellini mixture and stir gently until the cream cheese is fully blended and the sauce is creamy.
  7. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the entire mixture into an 8×8 baking dish sprayed with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  8. Add Mozzarella Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the pasta mixture.
  9. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and turned golden brown on top. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with Italian sausage or ground turkey for variation.
  • Using room temperature cream cheese helps it blend smoothly into the sauce.
  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the seasoning step.
  • Use fresh or frozen tortellini according to preference; adjust cooking time as needed.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated, but the cheese topping texture may change.
