Ingredients
Shrimp Coating
- 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- ½ cup flour (regular or gluten free)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- Avocado oil spray or olive oil (for spraying or drizzling)
Buffalo Sauce
- ¼ cup hot sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (or olive oil for a lighter option)
- 1 tbsp honey (optional)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to spice preference)
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Shrimp Coating: In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper thoroughly to create the dry coating.
- Rinse and Dry Shrimp: Rinse the peeled and deveined shrimp under cold water, then pat them completely dry with paper towels to ensure the coating sticks well.
- Coat Shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the flour mixture, thoroughly coating them. Shake off any excess flour for an even layer.
- Arrange Shrimp: Place the coated shrimp in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each shrimp for even cooking.
- Apply Oil: Lightly spray the shrimp with avocado oil spray or drizzle a small amount of olive oil over them for crispiness.
- Bake Shrimp: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even cooking and a crispy texture.
- Make Buffalo Sauce: While shrimp bakes, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in the hot sauce, honey, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce is well blended and warm.
- Toss Shrimp with Sauce: Once the shrimp are baked and crispy, remove them from the oven and transfer to a large bowl. Pour the buffalo sauce over the shrimp and toss until all pieces are evenly coated.
- Serve: Serve immediately as a spicy appetizer or main dish, optionally with celery sticks or a dipping sauce like ranch or blue cheese.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour for coating the shrimp.
- Adjust cayenne pepper amount to control the spiciness of the buffalo sauce.
- Honey is optional but adds a nice balance to the heat of the buffalo sauce.
- Oven temperatures can vary; keep an eye on the shrimp to prevent overcooking.
- Serve with celery sticks and ranch or blue cheese dressing for a classic buffalo experience.
