Ingredients
Potatoes
- 4 large Yukon Gold potatoes
Seasonings and Oil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ cup finely grated parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Rinse and scrub potatoes: Thoroughly rinse the potatoes under cold water and scrub to remove any dirt from the skin.
- Cut potatoes into thin strips: Using a sharp knife, cut the potatoes into thin 1/4 inch strips to create uniform fries.
- Soak potatoes in ice water: Place the sliced potatoes into a large bowl filled with ice water and let them soak for 30 minutes. This step removes excess starch and helps achieve crispiness.
- Drain and dry potatoes: After soaking, drain the water and pat the potato strips completely dry with a clean towel to prevent sogginess.
- Coat potatoes with oil and salt: Add olive oil and kosher salt to the dried potato strips, then toss well to ensure they are evenly coated.
- Arrange potatoes in air fryer basket: Place the potato strips in a single layer in the greased air fryer basket. Avoid overlapping to allow even cooking. You may need to cook in batches depending on your air fryer size.
- Air fry potatoes: Set the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) and cook the fries for 18-20 minutes, flipping or shaking the basket halfway through for even browning.
- Prepare garlic parmesan seasoning: While the fries cook, mix together the finely grated parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and chopped parsley in a small bowl.
- Toss fries with seasoning and serve: Once fries are crispy and golden, remove them from the air fryer and immediately toss with the garlic parmesan mixture. Serve hot.
Notes
- Soaking the potatoes in ice water is essential for crispiness as it removes excess starch.
- Make sure to dry the potatoes thoroughly before air frying to avoid soggy fries.
- Cook fries in batches if necessary to ensure they cook evenly and get crispy.
- You can substitute parsley with fresh basil or oregano for a different herb flavor.
