These Air Fryer Fish Tacos are a quick and flavorful meal, featuring seasoned tilapia fillets cooked to perfection in the air fryer. Served with fresh coleslaw, zesty lime wedges, and cilantro, these tacos are a delightful combination of crispy, spicy, and fresh flavors, ready in just 20 minutes.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Fish and Seasoning

  • 3 (320g) tilapia filets (thawed)
  • Sea salt (to taste)
  • Ground black pepper (to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano

Tacos and Garnishes

  • 8 flour tortillas
  • Cooking spray or olive oil spray
  • Lime wedges (for serving)
  • Coleslaw (such as Southern Coleslaw recipe)
  • Cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking and preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the Fish: Pat dry the tilapia filets using paper towels. Cut each filet into two smaller pieces using a sharp knife to ensure even cooking.
  3. Season the Fish: In a small bowl, combine sea salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder, onion powder, and dried oregano. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly on both sides of the tilapia pieces.
  4. Air Fry the Fish: Place the seasoned fish pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry for 4 minutes on one side, then carefully flip the pieces and cook for an additional 2 minutes until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  5. Warm the Tortillas: Warm the flour tortillas either by air frying them for a few seconds or by heating them briefly in a non-stick skillet until pliable and slightly toasted.
  6. Assemble the Tacos: Place the cooked fish pieces onto the warmed tortillas. Top with coleslaw and fresh cilantro. Serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the tacos before eating.

Notes

  • Ensure the fish is fully thawed before cooking to ensure even cooking in the air fryer.
  • You can substitute tilapia with other white fish like cod or haddock if preferred.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper quantity to control the spice level according to your taste.
  • For a gluten-free option, use corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas.
  • Leftover fish can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated gently in the air fryer or oven.
