Ingredients
Dough Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Additional Ingredients
- 28 chocolate kisses, unwrapped
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted for coating
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until the dough forms and no dry flour remains.
- Shape the cookies: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll the dough into 28 balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them evenly spaced on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake the dough balls for 12-15 minutes or until they are set but not browned. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes.
- Add the chocolate kisses: While still warm, gently press one unwrapped chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie, slightly melting the candy to adhere it to the dough.
- Coat with powdered sugar: Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, roll each cookie generously in the sifted powdered sugar to coat well, giving them their classic ‘snowball’ appearance.
Notes
- Make sure the butter is very soft for easier creaming.
- Do not overbake; the cookies should remain pale and soft.
- Use high-quality chocolate kisses for the best flavor.
- Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
- For variation, try using different flavored chocolate candies instead of chocolate kisses.
