Ingredients
For the Smash Burger Tacos
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef, divided into 4 pieces
- 4 tortillas
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 tablespoons burger sauce
- 1 cup shredded lettuce (for garnish)
- 1 tomato, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the skillet: Place a large skillet over high heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Allow the pan to get hot to ensure a good sear on the beef.
- Smash the beef: Place one portion of the ground beef on the skillet, then top it immediately with a tortilla. Using a spatula, press down firmly to smash the beef beneath the tortilla until it spreads out close to the edges. This creates a thin patty, which will crisp up nicely. Cook for about 4 minutes over medium-high heat.
- Flip and season: Carefully flip the smashed beef and tortilla together. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of sea salt evenly over the cooked side, then place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of the beef. Cook for an additional 3 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt and the beef to finish cooking.
- Assemble the tacos: Remove the tortilla and burger patty from the skillet and transfer to a plate. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of burger sauce over the patty, then add a sprinkle of shredded lettuce and some chopped tomato for freshness.
- Serve: Fold the tortilla around the fillings to form a taco. Repeat the process for the remaining beef portions. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Smash Burger Tacos!
Notes
- You can use flour or corn tortillas depending on your preference.
- If you don’t have burger sauce, a mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard can be used as a substitute.
- For extra flavor, consider adding pickles or sliced onions inside the tacos.
- Make sure the skillet is hot before adding the beef to get a crispy crust on the smash burger.
- Smashing the beef thin is key to developing great texture and flavor.
