This Simple One Pan Skillet Lasagna is a quick and easy twist on the traditional baked lasagna. Using a single skillet, it layers savory ground beef or Italian sausage with diced green bell pepper, garlic, a flavorful spaghetti sauce, and broken oven-ready lasagna noodles cooked together on the stovetop. Topped with melted mozzarella cheese and fresh parsley, this comforting Italian-inspired dish is perfect for busy weeknights when you want hearty homemade flavors without the fuss of baking.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef or ground mild Italian sausage
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 ½ teaspoons)

Sauce and Pasta

  • 1 jar (23.5 oz) spaghetti sauce
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 8 oven-ready lasagna noodles, broken into pieces

Cheese and Garnish

  • 1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat and Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage until browned and cooked through, breaking it apart with a spoon. Add the diced green bell pepper and minced garlic, and sauté for another 2-3 minutes until the pepper softens and the garlic becomes fragrant.
  2. Add Sauce and Water: Pour the jar of spaghetti sauce and 1 ½ cups of water into the skillet with the cooked meat and vegetables. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  3. Incorporate Lasagna Noodles: Add the broken pieces of oven-ready lasagna noodles into the skillet, stirring gently to submerge them in the sauce. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the noodles are fully cooked and tender.
  4. Add Cheese and Melt: Once the noodles are cooked, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the skillet lasagna. Cover again and allow the cheese to melt for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve the lasagna hot directly from the pan.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein option.
  • If you prefer, use regular lasagna noodles boiled separately, but oven-ready noodles save time.
  • Adjust the water amount slightly if the noodles absorb too much or the mixture looks too soupy.
  • Fresh basil can be used alongside or instead of parsley for garnish.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in the skillet (if oven-safe) or transferred to a container for up to 3 days.
