Salsa de Tomatillo is a tangy, slightly spicy Mexican salsa made with tomatillos, jalapeños, onion, garlic, and cilantro. Fresh, vibrant, and versatile, it’s perfect for dipping with chips, drizzling over tacos, or using as a flavorful base for Mexican dishes.

  • Total Time: 17 minutes
  • Yield: 3 cups (6–8 servings)

Ingredients

10 tomatillos, husked

1 small onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, chopped

2 jalapeño peppers, chopped

¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook tomatillos for 5–7 minutes until softened and slightly pale. Drain and let cool slightly.
  2. In a blender or food processor, combine tomatillos, onion, garlic, and jalapeños. Blend until smooth.
  3. Stir in chopped cilantro, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Chill before serving for best flavor, or serve immediately with your favorite dishes.

Notes

Roast the tomatillos, onion, garlic, and jalapeños under a broiler for a smoky version.

Add avocado for a creamy twist.

Mix in lime juice for extra brightness.

Use serrano peppers instead of jalapeños for more heat.

Add a pinch of cumin for earthy flavor.
