Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 bulb fresh garlic
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare the garlic bulb: Remove the outer layers of the garlic bulb, exposing the individual cloves still encased in their skins.
- Trim the top: Cut off about 1/4 inch from the top of the bulb to reveal the tops of the cloves.
- Wrap in foil: Place the garlic bulb onto a prepared sheet of aluminum foil large enough to fully wrap the bulb, then place on a baking sheet.
- Add olive oil: Drizzle approximately 2 teaspoons of olive oil evenly over the exposed garlic cloves on the bulb.
- Seal the foil packet: Bring the edges of the foil together and fold tightly to enclose the garlic bulb completely.
- Roast the garlic: Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) and roast for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cloves are tender and soft when pierced.
- Cool the garlic: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the foil packets cool until safe to handle.
- Unwrap and extract cloves: Open the foil and remove the bulb. The roasted cloves should be soft and easily pop out of their skins with a small spoon or butter knife.
Notes
- Roasted garlic can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Use roasted garlic as a spread on bread, in mashed potatoes, or blended into sauces and dressings for a rich, mellow garlic flavor.
- Be careful when opening the foil packets as steam can escape and cause burns.
- Adjust roasting time slightly if your oven temperature varies or garlic bulb size differs.
