Ingredients
Citrus
- 1 Lemon
- 1 Orange
Spices and Fresh Roots
- 1 oz Fresh ginger root, peeled and chopped
- ½ tsp Ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp Ground turmeric
- ½ tsp Cayenne pepper (adjustable to taste)
Liquids
- 1-2 cups Water (as needed for blending)
Instructions
- Prepare the fruits and ginger: Peel and chop the ginger root into small pieces for easier blending. Juice the lemon and orange, removing seeds if necessary, to ensure a smooth mixture.
- Combine ingredients: In a blender, add the chopped ginger, lemon juice, orange juice, ground turmeric, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and 1 cup of water. Blend until you get a smooth, consistent liquid. Add more water if the mixture is too thick.
- Strain the mixture (optional): For a smoother texture, strain the blended liquid through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove pulp and ginger fibers.
- Pour into molds: Transfer the liquid into ice cube trays or silicone molds, filling each compartment evenly.
- Freeze: Place the trays in the freezer and let them freeze completely for at least 4-6 hours or overnight.
- Store and use: Once frozen, pop the cubes out and store them in a sealed container or freezer bag. Use by adding one or two cubes to hot water, tea, or smoothies as a natural immune booster.
Notes
- You can adjust the cayenne pepper amount depending on your spice tolerance.
- Using fresh turmeric root instead of ground turmeric is an option for a more vibrant flavor.
- The cubes can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- Adding a touch of honey when using the cubes in hot water enhances sweetness but is optional.
- Always consult with a healthcare provider before using turmeric if you have any medical conditions or are pregnant.
