Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar (lightly packed)
- 1/4 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder (spooned and leveled)
- Pinch of salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Sunbutter
- 1 cup dark chocolate
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups (24 oz) milk
Instructions
- Combine dry ingredients and Sunbutter: In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stir together the light brown sugar, Dutch-process cocoa powder, Sunbutter, and a pinch of salt until everything is fully combined and melted into a smooth mixture.
- Add chocolate and vanilla: Add the dark chocolate and vanilla extract to the saucepan, stirring continuously over medium heat until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is uniform.
- Incorporate milk gradually: Slowly pour in the milk one cup at a time, stirring constantly to ensure it blends smoothly. Once all the milk is added, bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Remove from heat once boiling.
- Serve and garnish: Pour the hot chocolate into cups and top with steamed milk, whipped cream, marshmallows, or any preferred toppings to enhance your drinking experience.
Notes
- Use Dutch-process cocoa for a smoother and richer chocolate flavor.
- Sunbutter can be substituted with peanut butter or almond butter if preferred.
- Adjust the sugar quantity to your taste, especially if you prefer less sweetness.
- For a vegan option, substitute milk with any plant-based milk such as almond or oat milk.
- Be careful when bringing the hot chocolate to a boil to prevent burning or scorching the mixture.
