Homemade Cherry Limeade is a refreshing and fruity drink that blends the sweet-tart flavor of fresh cherries with the zesty brightness of lime. Perfect for summer gatherings, this drink can be easily customized with sparkling soda or a splash of pineapple juice. The homemade cherry syrup adds a richer, fresher flavor compared to store-bought versions. Whether served with or without fizz, this cherry limeade is a delightful, thirst-quenching beverage for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4–6 servings

Ingredients

For The Cherry Limeade:

2 cups fresh cherries, washed & pitted

1 cup granulated sugar (200 grams)

1 cup water

1 1/2 cups fresh lime juice

3 cups cold water

34 cups ice

Optional for Sonic Copycat Cherry Limeade:

23 cups Sprite (or other lemon-lime soda)

Optional Garnish:

Fresh mint leaves

Lime slices, wedges, or wheels

Fresh cherries

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine pitted cherries, granulated sugar, and 1 cup of water.

  • Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves and cherries begin to break down. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until cherries soften and syrup thickens.

  • Remove from heat and cool for a few minutes.

  • Strain the cherry syrup into a pitcher, discarding solid fruit bits.

  • Add lime juice and 3 cups of cold water to the syrup, stirring to combine.

  • Fill glasses with ice, then pour the cherry limeade over the ice.

  • For the Sonic Copycat version, top with 2–3 cups of Sprite or another lemon-lime soda for fizziness. Stir gently.

  • Garnish with mint leaves, lime slices, or fresh cherries.

  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For a sweeter version, increase sugar in the cherry syrup or use a natural sweetener like agave or honey.

Add a splash of club soda for a less sweet, more neutral fizz.

Try adding pineapple juice for a tropical flavor.

Make a frozen version by blending the cherry syrup with ice for a slushy texture.

Use stevia or monk fruit for a healthier, sugar-free option.
