Ingredients
French Toast Bake
- 1 12-count pack King’s Hawaiian Original Dinner Rolls
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 6 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Prepare the Rolls: Tear the King’s Hawaiian dinner rolls into bite-sized pieces and place them evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish to form the base of the casserole.
- Make the Custard Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Prepare the Brown Sugar Butter Sauce: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar until it dissolves and forms a smooth, caramel-like sauce. Remove from heat.
- Combine and Soak: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the torn rolls in the baking dish, ensuring all the bread pieces are soaked well. Then drizzle the brown sugar butter sauce on top to coat the bread mixture evenly.
- Let it Rest: Allow the casserole to sit for about 15 minutes so the bread absorbs the custard mixture thoroughly.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is fully set.
- Serve: Remove from oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, optionally topped with syrup, fresh fruit, or powdered sugar for an extra special touch.
Notes
- Make sure the rolls are fresh and soft for the best texture in the bake.
- You can prepare this dish the night before by assembling and refrigerating it overnight before baking.
- For a richer flavor, substitute half-and-half or heavy cream for the milk.
- Add a pinch of salt to the custard mixture to enhance the flavors.
- Feel free to add extras such as chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or fresh fruit layers if desired.
