Ingredients

For the Apple Filling: 5 apples (peeled & diced), 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce, 2 tbsp granulated sugar, 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1 tsp lemon zest, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
For the Streusel Topping: 2 cups all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup cold salted butter (cubed), 3/4 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Prepare the crust: mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add butter, egg, and vanilla; mix until a dough forms. Press evenly into pan.
- For the filling: combine diced apples, applesauce, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, and cinnamon. Spread evenly over crust.
- Prepare streusel topping: cut butter into flour and sugar until crumbly. Sprinkle over apple filling.
- Bake 45–50 minutes, until top is golden and filling bubbles slightly.
- Cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for more depth of flavor.
Top with powdered sugar, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
Substitute applesauce with pear sauce for a unique twist.
Add walnuts or pecans to the streusel for extra crunch.
