Ingredients
Mushrooms and Herbs
- 32 oz. cremini mushrooms (baby bella)
- 2 tbsp. garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp. fresh sage, chopped
- 10 small fresh sage leaves, for garnish
Oils and Fats
- 6 tbsp. olive oil, divided
- 3 oz. salted butter (⅔ stick)
Seasonings
- Fresh ground pepper, to taste
- Flaky sea salt, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the mushrooms: Clean the cremini mushrooms by wiping them with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any dirt. Trim the stems if needed and set aside.
- Heat oil and butter: In a large skillet over medium heat, add 3 tablespoons of olive oil and the salted butter. Allow the butter to melt completely and combine with the olive oil, creating a flavorful base for sautéing.
- Sauté garlic and sage: Add the minced garlic and chopped fresh sage to the skillet. Stir constantly for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Cook the mushrooms: Add the mushrooms to the skillet, then drizzle with the remaining 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Stir well to coat all mushrooms evenly. Cook the mushrooms for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and browned.
- Season and finish: Sprinkle the mushrooms with fresh ground pepper and flaky sea salt to taste. Continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Garnish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat and transfer the mushrooms to a serving dish. Garnish with the 10 small fresh sage leaves for an attractive presentation. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use fresh mushrooms for the best texture and flavor; avoid washing them under running water as they absorb moisture.
- Adjust the amount of garlic and sage according to your taste preference.
- Serve this dish as a side for roasted meats, as a topping for toast, or mixed into pasta for an earthy flavor boost.
- For a richer taste, use unsalted butter and control the salt seasoning separately to manage sodium levels.
