Ingredients
8 slices of brioche or challah bread
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp powdered sugar (plus more for dusting)
1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
1/4 cup strawberry jam
2 large eggs
3 tbsp milk
2 tbsp butter (for frying)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture on four slices of bread. Top with sliced fresh strawberries and a spoonful of strawberry jam. Place the remaining bread slices on top to form sandwiches.
- In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs and milk until well combined.
- Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides, and fry for 2–3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove sandwiches from the skillet and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Try different fruits or jams, such as raspberry, blueberry, or peach, for a variation.
For a lower sugar version, use sugar substitutes and sugar-free jam.
For a vegan alternative, use dairy-free cream cheese, plant-based milk, and a flax egg replacement.
If you want to make the filling creamier, add a tablespoon of heavy cream or sour cream.
Use gluten-free bread if needed, but ensure it’s sturdy enough for frying.
